In Loving Memory
Bonnie Stone Bennett, our dear mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2018, surrounded by love. She was 87.
Bonnie's twin missions in life were music and mothering, and she excelled at both. An award-winning musician from her youth on, she studied piano with Frederic Dixon and Grant Johannesen and later received a certificate of pedagogy from Juilliard. She played both violin and keyboards in the Utah Symphony for more than three decades and was highly sought after as an accompanist and participant in recital performances.
Bonnie's gentle spirit and unselfish nature drew many friends to her, and she enjoyed playing chamber music with them, challenging them in penny poker games, and visiting regularly. She was beloved of many and loved them in return. She also loved attending the theater and ballet, traveling, and beating her husband at Scrabble.
Her greatest love, however, was reserved for her service as a wife and mother, which began March 18, 1952, when she married David Wells Bennett. They celebrated nearly 62 loving years together before he preceded her in death in 2014. Her mothering gifts extended beyond their four children to embrace 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and others who found themselves in need of a welcoming heart. Her grandchildren will cherish memories of sleepovers and family vacations, Sunday dinners and endless games of Pit and Sorry, and the world's best popcorn.
Bonnie is survived by her four children, Amy Johnson (Kevin), Emily Watts (Larry), Dan (Leslie Chin), and John. A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be determined.
