MISHAWAKA - Aghbert J. “Ed” Bertrand, 81, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. Ed was born on August 25, 1936 in Eunice, LA to the late Luscious and Ella Bertrand. Ed married the former Doris Holcombe on February 14, 1976 in Mishawaka, IN. Ed and Doris were married for 42 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his 2 sons, Ken (Demtera) Bertrand of Riverview, FL and Brian (Pam) Bertrand of Bristol, IN; 2 daughters, Angella (Jerry) Hann of Elkhart, IN and Nannette (Richard) Hough of Muskegon, MI; along with his 2 stepdaughters, Judy (Chuck) Wood of Mishawaka, IN and Vickie (Rick) Johnson of Osceola, IN. He is also survived by his sister, Leary Murphy of Lake Charles, LA. Ed was a loving and caring grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his 4-legged companion, his special Yorkie-Poo, Maggie. Ed served his country in the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge September 1962. Ed retired from Wheelabrator-Frye as a Machinist after 30 years of service. He attended the Cedar Road Church in Osceola, IN. He was a member of the American Legion Post 303. Ed enjoyed gardening, cooking, smoking meats with Cajun spice, feeding birds, and tinkering around. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm, with the service at 1:00pm, on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main, Mishawaka, IN. Burial will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Ed's family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.
