Cynthia Babineaux Lopez

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Lester Lopez, the former Cynthia Babineaux, 76, at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Bill J. Melancon officiating.

Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday a rosary being recited by the Men's Rosary Group at 6:30 pm.

A native of New Orleans and resident of New Iberia,

Mrs. Lopez passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Iberia Medical Center with her family by her side.

Born in New Orleans on August 30, 1941 and lifelong resident of New Iberia.

Mrs. Lopez was a retired salesperson of Beall-Ladyman, Allain's Jewelry, Abdalla's, and a substitute teacher for the Iberia Parish School Board.
She was a past CCD teacher and coordinated of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and volunteered at their office.

Cynthia was married to Lester Lopez for 57 years before his death in 2017. They were always together and never far from one another. In their last years, they planted a garden each year and provided vegetable and fruits to family and friends.
Lester and Cynthia's family helped to pick and bag their bounty for all to share. Cynthia was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
She devoted herself to taking care of family and loved them fiercely.
She was known for being a kind and loving woman with a good sense of humor.

Cynthia will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Special thanks to the staff of Consolata Nursing Home for the care she received while going through rehabilitation therapy.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela Thibodeaux and husband Arthur, Jr. of New Iberia, Yvonne Hebert and husband Gregg of Rynella, Christine Duplantis of Bull Island, and Melanie Judice of Loreauville; siblings, Phyllis Babineaux and companion Vernon Trahan of New Iberia and Matthew Babineaux of Youngsville; grandchildren, Maria T. Miller and husband Michael, Jodi Thibodeaux and boyfriend Justin Guillory, Arthur Thibodeaux, III., Wyatt Hebert and fiancée Kristen Thibodeaux, Lee Hebert and wife Brae, Franny Hebert and boyfriend Andrew Menard, and Jessica Hebert, Victoria Duplantis and boyfriend Dylon Bertrand. C.J Graves, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Anjelle Graves and companion Jonathan Richter, and Lacey Graves and companion Harley Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Kami, Kaiden, Grayson, Noah, Mason, Arianne, Harper, and one on the way- Sailor Ann; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, cousins, godchildren, neighbors and friends and beloved family pet Bear.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester John Lopez; her parents George & Rita Judice Babineaux Sr., brother, George Babineaux, Jr., and son-in-law, Larry Duplantis.

Pallbearers will be Wyatt Hebert, Lee Hebert, C.J Graves, Jr., Arthur Thibodeaux, III., Gregg Hebert, Arthur Thibodeaux, Jr., David Judice, and Dylon Bertrand.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Trahan, Matthew Babineaux, Michael Miller, Justin Guillory, Harley Mitchell, Andrew Menard, and Jonathan Richter.

Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
