Ralph Douglas Harlow was born on June 16, 1939 to Ralph Robert Harlow and Ella Louise Marksberry Harlow in Switzerland County, Indiana. He served four years in the United States Army. He married Sharon Swanson on July 25, 1960. To this union there was born five daughters, Vanessa (Rick) Knigga, Tina (Mike) McClellan, Regina Hehe (friend Jim Coleman), Katrina (Rod) Hopkins, Darla (Lonnie) Lozier, 24 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one sister, Judy (Clinton) Burlage of Aurora, IN, two brothers, William Harlow of Port St. John, FL, and Carl (Tilly) Courtney of Rising Sun, IN. And by close friends who were like family, Jim Gurley and Bill Cherry. He had several nieces and nephews. He made lots of friends and had a large family.
Ralph drove a semi for several different companies in his 48 years on the road. The last 18 years he drove for the Aurora Casket Company. Ralph was looked up to and loved by several of his co-workers. He had the ability to explain and teach the common sense approach to the job and the safety of the job without stepping on toes. His ability to make people smile brought him a lot of friends across the USA.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Louise, his grandparents, Omer and Nettie Harlow, Clara and Porter Marksberry and Ona Morris, by in-laws, Jonas and Helen Swanson and by a granddaughter, Jodi Nicole Rowekamp. He loved family, friends, old cars, TV, and good old country music. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 22nd at 10:00 AM, 2014 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday November 21, 2014 at Markland Funeral Home.
