John F. Spillane, 86, of Salem, Marblehead, and Everett, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 21st.

Born on February 13, 1932 in Boston, MA, he was the middle son of Rose (McAteer) Spillane and Philip Spillane of Everett, MA. He is pre deceased by his brothers Phillip of Tucson, AZ and Joseph of Atlanta, GA.

In addition to his loving wife Joan, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, he is survived by his four children, three sons and one daughter, Sean and his wife Wendy of Swampscott, Paul and his wife Carol of Marblehead, Steve and his wife Mimi of Swampscott, and Beth and her husband Sean Dempsey of Marblehead.

He is survived by his eight grandchildren, who were all with him when he passed. Meghan & Molly Spillane, Katie & Daniel Spillane, Matthew & Christy Spillane, and Gillian & Ryan Dempsey.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. Affectionately known as "J & S", he had a successful sales career and always pursued his passion for building projects of any kind.

John was a lifelong Communicant of Star of the Sea Parish for over 60 years and the strength of his faith was a guiding principle in his life. He was a youth football coach and guided his children and grandchildren through his passion for all sports and hard work. He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Swampscott Beach Club for over 30 years.

A special thanks to All Care Visiting Nurses and Hospice for their compassionate care for our father.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead on Thursday, May 24 at 11:30AM with burial to follow in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM prior to the service at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave Ste 6, Waltham, MA 02451 or at www.americanheart.org.
