Civil War: Company D, 2nd California Cavalry

Houston Beal enlisted as a private at Sacramento, California, and was mustered into Company D, 2nd California Cavalry, April 25, 1864. He was later promoted to sergeant. Sergeant Beal was on detached service at the time his company was mustered out and received his own discharge June 11, 1866 (Orton, p. 226). Houston filed for a Civil War veteran's pension May 8, 1891, and received application No. 1,022,295 and certificate No. 895,096. He refiled for his pension October 11, 1908. After his death his wife filed for a widow's pension March 16, 1909, and received application No. 915,479 and certificate No. 710,078.
