Valerie Elizabeth Ray was born on October 20, 1950 at Philadelphia General Hospital. She died April 5, 2007. She was the third of six children of James and Georgia Ayers. Her brother James Ayers Jr. preceded her in death.
Valerie was educated in the Philadelphia School System.
She was a longtime employee of Grants Department store, Marriott Hotel, and worked as a bar maid throughout the city.
Valerie was a social butterfly and she could light up any room she entered. She had a great since of humor and a smile as bright as the sun. She loved to dance, she was known as the “bop queen”. She also was a very good cook. Her kids referred to her as (GWB) Gang War Betty, never afraid of anything or anyone. To sum it all up she was greatly loved and appreciated.
She leaves to mourn: father, James S. Ayers; mother, Georgia L. Ayers; four brothers, Robert L. Hayes, William Corley, Kenneth Bowler, and Clayton Corley; three sisters, Marsha A. Hayes, Carol L. Sims, and Lorraine Ayers; three children, Angela, Edward, and Aaron Ray; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Ray; five grandchildren, Malayna Ray, Aaron Ray Jr., Janay Ray, Anthony Sander Jr., and one unborn due in July; a very special Aunt, Edna Douglas, who has always been there; along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
She also leaves behind: Edward Pettis, her companion of 16 years; his daughter, Patricia; and nephew, Christopher.
