Authorities in Osage County are seeking the public's help in tracing the whereabouts of an 18-year-old man in the hours before he was struck and killed by a train.

In a news release issued Tuesday, Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn identified the man as Austin McWilliams, of Lyndon.

Authorities earlier said Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway notified the sheriff's office that a man was seen sitting on a bridge about 3:30 a.m. Monday near 269th and Stubbs Road, southeast of Quenemo. When deputies arrived, they found the body of McWilliams, who had been struck by a train.

Dunn said the sheriff's office is continuing to investigate whether McWilliams' death resulted from an accident or an intentional act. She asked that anyone with information about McWilliams' whereabouts before 3:30 a.m. Monday call the sheriff's office at (785) 828-3121 or Osage County Crime Stoppers at (877) OS-CRIME.

LYNDON—Austin David McWilliams went to his heavenly home July 18, 2016 in a tragic accident. He was an incredible young man doing many things throughout the community for neighbors and friends and will leave a large void in the lives of many. He is survived by his parents, Clyde L. McWilliams Jr., Ottawa, and Angelica R. Franks and Chris Armstrong, Lyndon; two brothers, Jerry D. McWilliams and James M. Berube-Franks; grandparents, Clyde L. McWilliams Sr., Ottawa, and David A. Franks and DaNel L. Franks, Lyndon; a greatgrandmother, Nellie Crawford, Saint Joseph, Mo. We will love him forever with no end.
