Jack W. Bell, age 90, moved peacefully from Earth to Heaven on January 15th. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leila, son Phillip, and Daniel Meyers who was like an adopted grandson to him for many years. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his sisters Geraldine Ringgold, Ruth Arnold and Peggy Reed.

A native of Oklahoma, although he lived in Des Moines for 60 years, Jack attended Oklahoma Baptist University and honorably served in the Army Air Corps as an aerial photographer stationed in Alaska during the 1940s. Following his retirement from the federal government nearly 30 years ago, one of Jack’s great joys in life were his years of volunteer work in support of children with emotional and psychological challenges. He volunteered at Iowa Lutheran Hospital working with children until the time of his death.

Jack was a member of Lake Country Chapel, where he had served as an Elder. He appreciated and enjoyed his close friendships with members of his church family. An avid reader and scholar of the Bible, his life reflected its teachings.

Services will be at 10 AM Friday, January 19th at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday, January 18th.
