Louis Joseph Traveland, Jr., 83, of Richardson, Texas, was a 32 degree Mason and a member of Hella Shrine and would appreciate donations to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas or the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas in his honor.
He was born to Louis Joseph Traveland and Vera Lee McDonald.
Louis became a proud Marine and served during the Korean War. After his service to our nation he returned to Corpus Christi and met his future wife on a blind date. He told her on that date that she was "the one" and he would marry her. He was a very good salesman and Mary finally agreed a year later, to marry him and on March 14, 1959 they were wed. They were married 59 years and she was by his side as he drew his last breath.
Louis graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in 1961. He became sage in the water industry, first working as a sales,an in west Texas for Tate Manufacturing and later, Sta-Rite Pumps. He moved his family to Richardson in 1971. In 1973, he started Dickson Bros., Inc. in Mesquite, Texas and Clearwater Pump & Supply, Inc. in Dallas, a legacy that lives on as a family business run by his daughter Mary and son-in-law Allan.
Louis was generous and kind, often buying groceries for those in need, taking in friends and family who needed a moral or economic boost and guiding many a young boy on how to become a man. He frequently handed out copies of "If" by Rudyard Kipling, which he felt was excellent advice.
He was his four daughters biggest fan and was always there for activities- attending many Girl Scout activities, dance marathons, Key Club activities, school events and untold dance recitals, choir practices/concerts, swim meets and gymnastics competitions. He was always there for his family and took pride in providing for them.
