Darryl graduated in 1954 from Raytown High School, attended Missouri School of Mines in the late 50's, joined the 492nd Air Force Reserves, then graduated from Central Missouri State-Warrensburg in 1965. After graduating, he worked for the Chemical Blasting Division of Gulf Oil Corp. Having a desire to work for himself, he bought Midland Hardware Store in Antioch Center, Kansas City, MO in 1973. Loving the business, he then purchased Waldo True Value and C&J Hardware (Olathe, KS). The city of Paola, KS needed a store, so he started one there and another one in El Dorado Springs, MO.
Darryl attended Evangel Church, 1st Assembly of God, since August 1953, served on the board for approximately 24 years and was Board Secretary and Chairman of Building Committee when the current building was built in 1979-81. He was also past president of the Southwestern Hardware & Implement Association.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ramona; son, Bradley J. Taylor, Chicago; daughter, Kara L. (Taylor) Thomason and son-in-law, Jeff Thomason, Overland Park; son, Jonathan M. Taylor, Chicago; grandchildren: Taylor, Gunnar, and Gannon Thomason; niece, Christy Chestnut-Breault; nephew, Ryan Staley, and their families.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM with service at 11 on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Evangel Church, 1414 E. 103rd St, Kansas City, MO 64131. Graveside service will be at 2 PM on Monday at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AOG World Missions, ¨G General Counsel of Assem. of God, 1445 Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802.
