Robert A. "Bob" Bowlsby, 89, of Waterloo died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Sunday, May 27, 2018 of cancer.

He was born May 4, 1929 in Waterloo, son of Clifton A. and Helen Hopkins Bowlsby.

Bob was an outstanding athlete as a young man and excelled in all sports. He was a first team all-state selection in both football and basketball at West Waterloo High School. He attended Iowa State University and was a member of the football team although injury ended his career. He then attended the University of Iowa.

Bob married Patricia Galloway on November 25, 1950 in Waterloo; she died October 6, 2008.

He was a superintendent at John Deere; retiring in 1986.

In retirement, Bob and Pat attended auctions and restored many antiques that typically ended up in the homes of their children. He was a talented carpenter and craftsman making toys and hobby horses for his grandchildren and completing countless wood projects and repairs for his family. Bob was an excellent bridge player and played Duplicate Bridge at a high level for any years. He was also an exceptional pool, snooker and billiards player. There is no record that any family member ever beat him! Bob greatly enjoyed overseeing family gatherings where his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren saw to his every need.

He is survived by his children: Robert (Candice) Bowlsby, Dallas, TX, Ann (Randy) Alliger, Cedar Rapids, IA, John (Cyndy) Bowlsby, Long Lake, MN, Sarah (Tom) Norman, Des Moines, IA, and Jane (Jeff) Glantz, Cedar Rapids, IA; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Arnold, Kingman, AZ.

Bob is preceded by his parents; wife; and a daughter in law, Joyce Bowlsby.

Services:
Private family services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was a life long member.
Visitation:
A Celebration of Life reception for friends and family will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 12:30-3:30 PM at Landmark Commons, 1400 Maxhelen Blvd., Waterloo
