Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Mae "Rose" Kennedy, of Dublin, Georgia, will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the First Seventh Day Adventist Church, 605 South Decatur Street, Dublin. Pastor Lloyd Johnson will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Ratliff Cemetery in Irwinton.
Rosa Mae Joiner was born on June 9, 1937, in Wilkinson County, Georgia, as the only daughter of Charles Joiner and Estella Horne Joiner-Flanders. The family soon relocated to Dublin. "Rose" was a woman dedicated to God, family and a strong work ethic. She was known for her cooking, especially greens, and financial management. She loved fishing, gardening and attending family gatherings.
Mrs. Kennedy worked as a domestic for many years at the Claxton Hospital, Laurens Memorial Hospital, and later Fairview Park Hospital, where she retired after many faithful years. She joined the Bethany Seventh Day Adventist Church and served as a loyal member and usher until her health declined. She was married to James Russell and Otha Kennedy, both of whom preceded her in death. She passed away on May 28, 2018.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, Jimmy and Jeffrey Russell, and Terry James Kennedy, and by her two brothers, Charles and Oscar Joiner.
Mrs. Kennedy leaves her memories to be celebrated by her son, Jerome (Maudie) Russell, stepson, Otha T. Kennedy, sister-in-law, Jean Kennedy, fourteen grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family is receiving friends at 702 North Franklin Street in Dublin.
