Evelyn Iler Gilbert, age 81, of Highway 27 West in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gilbert was born July 25, 1936, in Lincoln County, to the late Jeff and Izaine Sain Iler. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John D. Gilbert; a daughter, Judy Gilbert; and two sisters, Mary Jo Carpenter and Margaret Johnson. She retired from Lincoln County Schools. Evelyn was a member of Lincoln County First Responders and was an active member of Howards Creek VFD Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, Garland Gilbert, and wife Wendy, of Lincolnton; a brother, Hoyt Iler of Stanley; two sisters, Betty Porter and Frankie Short, both of Cherryville; two grandchildren, Garrett Gilbert, and wife Brandi, and Gaston Gilbert; and one great-grandchild, Grayson Gilbert.
