Memorial service for Norman A. Thompson, 70, of 2728 SE Laurelwood Dr., Milwaukie, will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Caldwell's Colonial Mortuary. Committal will be private at Portland Memorial.

Mr. Thompson, owner and operator of seven Thompson Pipe and Cigar Shops and more recently the Thompson Kindergarten and Day Nursery at Milwaukie, died Monday at a local hospital.

He was born May 8, 1896, at Newcastle-On-Tyne, England, coming to Salt Lake City in 1912 and to Portland in 1920.

During World War I, he served and was decorated in France in the 2nd Royal Canadian Mounted Rifles. He was past monarch of Gul Lodge No. 55, AF&AM, and was past monarch of Gul Razee Grotto of the Masonic order. He was one of the founders of the Portland Police Reserve and the Sunshine Division and was active in many other civic organizations.

Surviving are the widow, Anna R. Thompson, Milwaukie; two children, Lucille D. Alport and Norman A. Thompson, Portland; a sister, Lilian Welsh, Portland and five grandchildren. Oregonian, July 7, 1966
