At least 2 emblems on headstone. They are very faint. One is a Masonic Emblem and one is GAR (which is Grand Army of the Republic). FindAGrave member Mike Appleby contributed the information between the lines. Some of it I will put in the proper spaces and some that doesn't readily fit, I will just leave here between the lines.

died 29 Jan 1906 in Portland, Oregon <--- this says 1906, but tombstone says 1907 - I'm going to go with 1907 until shown otherwise.

son of Charles (1815-1900) and Eliza Davis Marvin (1818-1856)

husband of Caroline Cordelia Saxton (1845-1927) married 25 Mar 1862 in Johnson co, Iowa.

father of 13 children

A veteran of the Civil War. He served in Company I, 22nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry.

William also served in Co B 1st Iowa Infantry. This 3 month Regiment was a major participant in the Battle of Wilson's Creek,Mo.
