"Cruising the internet" didn't involve a computer for Donald Franks of Trail City. When he told folks he was going to "cruise the internet" it meant he was going for a four-wheeler ride. He liked to check out what his neighbors were doing and all the goings-on in the neighborhood.

His cruising days drew to an end when he died at his home Thursday, April 12, 2007, at the age of 71.

Donald Franks was born March 15, 1936 to Edward and Gladys (Coull) Franks at Selby. Gladys was staying with her sister in Selby when Donald was born as the family was preparing to move to the farm in the Glencross and Trail City area.

Donald grew up on the farm near Trail City and attended the Aberle rural school. He lived all of his life on that same farm as a farmer, rancher and dairyman.

Donald and his sister Alice spent last Christmas in Rapid City where for the first time he saw Mount Rushmore and other surrounding sights, which he really enjoyed.

He is survived by four sisters, Frances Larson, Tyndall; Emma Young, Union, Wash., Alice Kilber, Akaska, and Patricia (Michael) Morolla, Chesterfield, Va; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Gladys Franks and his brother Paul.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 18, at 2 p.m. MDT at the Timber Lake United Parish. Rev. MariBeth Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Casketbearers will be Steve Lenling, Virgil Lenling, Merle Leibel, Jerry Leibel, Tim Leibel and Tom Aberle.
