Melvin Mathias Blotsky was the second of 16 children born to Peter J. and Mary (Bullinger) Blotsky and he was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Flasher, N.D. He lived in Raleigh, N.D., until 1954 when the family moved to McIntosh. He attended school in Raleigh and McIntosh.

On June 27, 1959, he entered the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield. He moved to the Aberdeen Health and Rehab Center on July 24, 2000, and lived there until his death.

Melvin died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen at the age of 66.

Surviving family members include his six brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Georgia Blotsky of Beulah, N.D., Charlie and Marla Blotsky of Sturgis, Gerald Blotsky of Bismarck, N.D., William "Bill" and Pat Blotsky of Vale, David Blotsky of Williston, N.D., and Jeff Blotsky of Lead/Deadwood; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Albert Bachmeier of Rapid City, Marlene and Henry Jaszkowiak of Bismarck, Darlene and Don Sieler of Sioux Falls, Betty and Alvin Kraft of New Salem, N.D., Clara and Dick Goodmanson of Lemmon, Vernetta and Jake Kraft of Belle Fourche, Annette and Curtis Gehring of McIntosh, and Cecelia and Blaine Tishmack of Shields, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father Peter on Oct. 11, 1980, his mother Mary on Oct. 14, 1999, and his brother Ronald on May 17, 2005.

Mass of Christian Burial for Melvin was celebrated Saturday, April 14, at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in McIntosh. Father Tony Grossenburg was celebrant with burial in St. Bonaventure's Catholic Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers were Leo Blotsky, Charlie Blotsky, Gerald Blotsky, Bill Blotsky, David Blotsky and Jeff Blotsky.

A rosary service was held Friday evening at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church.

Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
