Doris was born December 11, 1928 in Bala, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford and Margaret (Peterson) Young. Doris attended the Broughton grade school and graduated from CCCHS in 1946. After high school, she worked at J.C. Penney’s and Sears in the catalog department. She was a bookkeeper for 18 years at Livengood Motors, Siebold Motors, and Livengood Siebold Motors in Clay Center. In 1967, Doris started working at Fort Riley in finance as an accounting technician for 21 years until her retirement in 1988.
Doris married Lyle Dunn on December 23, 1971 and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1995. Doris also worked at Russell Stovers in Abilene and at a daycare in Clay Center. She thought of Lyle's side of the family as her family too and they were all very special to her. She enjoyed eating out with her relatives, friends, and the regular widow groups. Doris was a caring person and loved people very much.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School treasurer. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and NARFE. She volunteered for the Lighthouse for Christ, Meals on Wheels and Friendship Meals.
She is also preceded in death by parents, son, Douglas Dunn, daughter, Judy Gilkes, and 2 sisters.
