Obituary for Virginia L. Collins

Collins, Virginia L. "Ginny" (nee Hoerner), 82, passed away March 13th, 2021 at home in Inver Grove Heights. She was born on February 24th, 1939 in Bowdle, South Dakota to Anthony L. "Tony" and Martha M. (Madden) Hoerner.

She attended rural schools in Huron, DeSmet, and Bowdle, SD. In 1950, the family moved to Sioux Falls, where she attended Cathedral High School. She later attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD where she earned her bachelor's degree. She was a teacher in Austin and Cleveland, MN public schools.

On June 9th, 1964, she married Thomas J. Collins in Litomysl, Minnesota. They lived in various cities in MN before settling in the Twin Cities in 1974. She worked at the Dakota County Library Systems in Eagan's Wescott Library for 20 years until she retired in 2009. Her hobbies were crossword puzzles and reading.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas, of Inver Grove Heights; two sons, Thomas, Jr., of Inver Grove Heights, and Christopher (Alia), of Woodbury; three grandsons, Mark, Gregory, and John; a sister, Marcie Hoerner, of Eagan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her father and mother-in-law, Jack and Lillian Collins.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Eric Weinshel and the staff at Minnesota Oncology for the extraordinary care they provided to our wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Saturday, March 20th at the Church of St. Louis King of France, 506 Cedar Street, St. Paul.

Visitation 1 hour prior to the service at church.

Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
