Gwendolyn Jude "Gweny" Cox
May 28, 2018

Gwendolyn Jude Cox, Gweny, to her friends and family, has left her body behind and is free to roam the Universe at last.

Gweny’s boundless energy lit up every room she was in, making new friends out of everyone she met. She was a trailblazer, music lover, and baseball fan. She was magical, with special powers. She stretched a seven-year life expectancy into thirty years of happiness. Gweny was a fabulous big sister, inspiring her brother Nick and his wild imagination.

Left behind to cherish her memory are, Pam Cox, mom (Salem, VA), Thad, dad (New Castle, VA), and Nick Cox, brother (Brooklyn, NY); as well as Dessie Cox, grandmother (New Castle, VA), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and so many others who would consider her family. Having left before her were grandparents John Cox (New Castle, VA) and Clyde & Alcie Keen (Roanoke, VA).

Gweny’s family would like to thank Dr. Luther Beazley and staff, Dr. Joan Conry and staff at DC Children’s Hospital, Dr. Timothy Hormel and staff, and Dr. Roy Habib and staff. Also, the Bradshaw family and staff at Mini World of Salem. And finally, Teri Howe and the many others who lovingly cared for her in her home over the years.

Gweny left us on May 28, 2018. A funeral service will be held at Noon on Friday, June 1st, 2018 at Oakey's North Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00PM on Thursday, May 31st, 2018 at the funeral home. Graveside will be private.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her name, please consider The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD, Dept. 5930, P.O. Box 4110, Woburn, MA 01888); or, Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke.
