Born in N.C., he moved to Moulton, IA in 1865 and was married there in 1866. To this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy. He was united in marriage to Miss Reed and there were three girls born of this union. Valna Bell Marquess went to rest in 1908. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Mina B. Medford in 1918. He united with the Christian Church at Moulton, IA in 1885 and his membership was transferred to Eureka in 1919. He suffered a stroke of paralysis on the morning of May 27, 1922 and he completed the journey down the western slope of time June 6, 1922 at 4 P.M.

His children who are left behind are sons, William of Willow Springs, MO; Luther of near Lorena, Ok; Henry of Latham, Ks daughters Mrs. Mary Davidson of Moulton, IA; Mrs. Jessie Peek of Eureka and Mrs. Lillie Carter of Lone Star. Of the other family left to mourn his departure are his wife, Mr. Mina B. Ledbetter and his only living sister, Mrs. Nancy Wood of Gastonia, NC, 22 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
