Actress. She was best known to film viewers as 'Shirl', the crazed dance partner of Red Buttons' character in the 1969 classic film "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?". She studied dancing at a studio in Brooklyn, New York at a young age. In the early 1940s, she started on Broadway in the musical "One Touch of Venus". She later appeared in the Broadway plays "On the Town", "Where's Charley?", and "West Side Story". In 1948, she made her film debut in the musical "Words and Music". Besides "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?", she went on to appear in various films during her career such as "Where's Charley?" (1952), "Calamity Jane" (1953), "Jeremiah Johnson" (1972), "The Way We Were" (1973), and "All The President's Men" (1976). Her first television appearance came in 1970 on the NBC sitcom "My World and Welcome to It". She went on to appear in many television series such as "The Waltons", "The Tony Randall Show", WKRP in Cincinnati", "Punky Brewster" and "The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd". She retired from acting in 1993. For over half a century until his passing in 2016, she was married to fellow actor George Gaynes.
