Swedish Statesman. He served as the 28th Prime Minister of Sweden from October 18, 1978 to October 12, 1979. He joined the Liberal Youth of Sweden and the People's Party in the spring of 1958. That same year, he traveled to the United States and worked on the successful gubernatorial campaign of New York Republican Nelson Rockefeller. In 1962, he became leader of the Liberal Youth of Sweden and served in this position for two years before being elected to parliament in 1964. In 1976, the first non-Socialist government in 40 years was created in Sweden and he became International Development Minister. He became the leader of the Liberal Party in 1978. Later that same year, the country's center-right coalition government broke up and he became prime minister of a minority government. He served in this position until the 1979 elections when the previous center-right coalition came back to power. He went on to serve as both Foreign Affairs Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the new government for almost three years. He later served as ambassador to several countries.
