ODELL - Janice E. Bane Lambert, 72, of rural Odell died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 11, 2009) at her residence.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dwight United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Leppin officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Janice was born Feb. 26, 1937, in Streator, the daughter of Joe H. and Edna Dykes Bane. She grew up in the Dana area and moved to Emington in 1949. She attended Emington Grade School and graduated from Saunemin High School in 1955.

She married Robert R. Lambert Dec. 2, 1956, in Emington. Surviving are three children, Susan (Richard) Marsh, Atlanta, Mo.; Lisa (Darrel) Tarver, Reddick; and Roger (Stacey) Lambert, Yorkville; six grandchildren, Sarah Marsh (Mike) Creason, Maryville, Mo.; Amy (Brian) Coleman, Maryville, Mo.; Jennifer (Sean) Joyce, Lockport; Jessica Moyemont, Dwight; and Shira and Jake Lambert, Yorkville; and two great-grandsons, Cannon and Creed Creason, Maryville, Mo. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, cousins and the extended family of two AFS students that the Lamberts hosted in the 1970s, Gerd Johannson, Aland, Finland, and Enrique J. Llorente Valdez, Cancun, Mexico. Several other students from France and Mexico spent time in the Lambert home on exchange programs and became part of the "family."

Janice was a member of Saunemin's first All-Girl Marching Band in the 1950s. She was employed after graduation at State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, Bloomington. She was a 4-H leader in both Livingston and Grundy counties for several years.

Janice was a 70-year member of the Modern Woodmen of America and was a member of the Dwight United Methodist Church.

Janice was known to many as "The Gazebo Lady" of the Central State's Threshermen's Association where she spent time assisting with the annual events.

In 1999 she became involved in the Illinois Association of Wheat Weavers where she had served as vice president and also the newsletter editor. She gave many talks and demonstrations in the area on wheat weaving with her fellow members. She was secretary for the National Association of Wheat Weavers for two years.

Janice retired in 2002 from the Dwight Correctional Center's Business Office and had served as vice president of the local retiree union, Chapter 31, sub-chapter 76 at Pontiac.

Preceding her in death are her parents; a sister, Myrna Ruth Bane, who died in infancy; and two brothers, Curits L. Bane in 1974 and George A. Bane in 2000.
