James William Shook, 83, of Hickory passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his residence.
He was born May 7, 1935 in Catawba County to the late William Edgar Shook and Bessie Hargus Shook.
James was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Conover for 27 years. He was a United States Marine Veteran and a retired firefighter from Deerfield Beach, FL.
James enjoyed model cars, planes and boats. He had a talent of making furniture, curtains and clothing as well as remodeling old cars.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy and Joann.

A service to celebrate James's life will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Conover. Pastor Steve Clark and Pastor Odell Broadway will officiate. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church.
