Allen Reid Strange, 80, of Evansville, IN, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital.

A native of Rineyville, he was an avid golfer, enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, and helped coach baseball at Hebron and Plaza in the Rural Youth Leagues. He was a member of two Kentucky High School basketball regional championship teams with the Rineyville High School Red Devils, earning a trip to what was then called the "State Meet." He was selected as "Distinguished Alumni" of the Hardin County Schools Corp. in 2002. He was a veteran of World War II, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a paratrooper with the 513th Regiment of the 17th Airborne Division, "Thunder from Heaven." He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He moved to Evansville in 1951 as an employee of Swift Packing Co. and retired from Wright Motors in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Quirey Strange in 1990; a half brother, Charles Arthur Forrester in 1994; and a sister Francis Bryan in 1996.

Survivors include three daughters, a son and five grandchildren. Two sisters, Roberta Bryan (2018) and Dorothy Routte (2008); a beloved sister-in-law, Kay Nusz (2011); and several Nieces and nephews.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home – East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 4424 Vogel Road, Suite 205., Evansville, IN 47715.
