John Michael Castle, 29 years young, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. He was born in Johnson City, NY and lived in Hillcrest, NY until he was 4 years old, later relocating with his family to North Syracuse, NY where he grew up.

John attended St. Margaret’s School in Mattydale and Bishop Grimes Junior High School from Kindergarten through grade 8. John is a graduate of Liverpool High School class of 2006 with an advanced regents diploma. John was pursuing a Math Science degree at Onondaga Community College with dreams of transferring to a university to attain a Bioprocess Engineering degree. John’s dreams were driven by his passion for protecting the environment.
At age 13, John was selected as a People to People student ambassador. As a Student Ambassador he traveled Europe for one month visiting Spain, France, Monaco and Italy.

Growing up John enjoyed basketball. He regularly attended basketball summer camps and played on the St. Margaret’s basketball team as well as St. Margaret’s CYO basketball. They even created a special play for him called the “Castle” play where they passed the ball to John to make a basket.

During his high school years John loved to down-hill snow ski. His summers were filled with joyful memories at the family cottage on Chaumont Bay in Northern NY. Many happy hours were spent with his family and friends, swimming, boating, water skiing, tubing, jet skiing, or just sitting around a camp fire.

John became passionate about music. He could play many songs on his guitar just by listening to a melody. John played the guitar, clarinet, keyboard and ukulele. John also enjoyed music theory, often spending hours researching music genres and documenting chords and music for his friends.

He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Walter D. Castle; paternal great-grandparents, Walter V. and Mary Castle; and his Uncle Kenneth J. Castle.

John is survived by his parents, James D. and Linda T. (Costantini) Castle of North Syracuse, NY; his sister, Jamie L. (Alexander Cross) Castle of Brewerton, NY; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth M. Castle of Palm Harbor, FL; maternal grandparents, Peter and Grayce Costantini of North Syracuse, NY; uncles, Timothy M. (Mary) Castle and Thomas E. (Marcy) Castle; aunts, Debi (Michael Sullivan) Gedney, Rosemarie (Michael Morrissey) Costantini, and Debbie Castle; many cousins; and his beloved cat, Kitty.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 10:00 am at St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
