Following school Rita worked at Continental Overall Factory and also was a head start bus driver.
She was united in marriage to Robert Bates on September 1, 1962. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were things that she loved. Rita also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, watching the birds and loving her cat.
Rita passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 16 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Bates; children, Bobby (Sherry), Janet (Dave) Pregon, Joni (William) Isley all of Knoxville, Judy (Kevin) Vermeer of Leighton, Richard (Kim) of Newton; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Anthony Toigo of Indianola, Carole Nichol of Pershing and Sharon Bowers of Pahrump, NV.
