Robert Linwood Altman, 93, husband of the late Nancy Stacey Altman, died at his residence Friday morning May 25, 2018. Linwood was a man who loved his family, his community, and his work.

Mr. Altman was born in Georgetown on September 10, 1924, a son of the late Rothie Bennett Altman, Sr. and Agnes Bertha Lucken Altman. He was a graduate of Winyah High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Altman lived in Georgetown County most of his life and served in W. W. II in the Navy. He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the owner of Pawleys Island Reality and Georgetown Agency.

Mr. Altman was a President and member of the Pawleys Island Civic Association and the Pawleys Island Chapel Board. He was a member of the Winyah Indigo Society, the Rotary Club of Georgetown, The Propeller Club, the American Legion, VFW, and Pawleys Island Masonic Lodge. Mr. Altman was a past Chairman of the Georgetown County Heart Fund Association and the Black River District Boy Scouts, a former Jaycee of the Year in Georgetown and former Chairman of Georgetown Planning and Zoning Commission.

Mr. Altman was a former member of the S. C. House of Representatives, Chairman of the Wildlife subcommittee of the House of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the South Carolina Coastal Council, and Chairman of the Georgetown School Board. He received the Order of Palmetto in 1992. He was a former President of the Waccamaw Neck Council of Property Owners Association and had been voted Pawleys Island Man of the Year.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Altman was predeceased by: a son, Alan S. Altman.

Surviving are: two daughters, Nancy Altman (Randy) and Ann Altman Morris; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2018, from four until six o’clock at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Funeral services will be private.

The family suggests memorials to Pawleys Island Child Development Center, 291 Parkersville Rd., Pawleys Island, S. C. 29585 and Pawleys Island Chapel, P O Box 164, Pawleys island, S. C. 29585.

The Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
