Russell Lloyd "Jack" Chambers, age 95, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone.
He was born January 31, 1923 in Polk County, Iowa to the late George and Cora Morgan Chambers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Chambers; daughter, Donna Blackburn; sister, Lola Meline; and step-mother, Georgia Morgan Chambers.
Mr. Chambers proudly served his Nation as a diver for the Navy Seals and was a World War II veteran. He later retired as a self-employed diver.
Survivors include step-daughter, Marsha P. Thomas and husband John of Boone; three step-grandsons, J.T. Thomas and wife Kristen of Richmond, VA, Jeb Thomas and wife Lindsey of Apex, and Justin Thomas and wife Allison of Whitsett, N.C.; six step-great-grandchildren; and three nephews, Aaron Meline, Chuck Meline, and Tim Meline and their families of Des Moines, Iowa.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Josh Hughes, and Rev. David Smith.
