Martha Caroline, the first wife of James Edgar Graves, married 23 October 1875 in Newton, Mississippi. Sadly, Martha Caroline died after bearing 6 children. Apparently, her infant child was later buried with her. The graves had been unmarked until recently. Being able to find and mark these two burial sites were due to the efforts of Carol Gustin, Mike Graves and Patricia Durda. Both Carol and Patricia are Martha Caroline's great-great granddaughters. Mike is descended from the second wife of James Edgar, Elizabeth Bessie Laird.
We honor this exceptional woman: Martha Caroline Johnson Graves.
