Born May 6, 1935 in Monroe, Ben was the son of the late James “Joe” Harrison and Edna (Cox) Foley. A was a graduate of Frankfurt Pilgrim High School in Frankfurt, Indiana, Ben went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Ball State University.
While in high school Ben met and on June 26, 1954 married his beloved wife, the former Joan Edwards, in Anderson, Indiana.
Ben was a certified public accountant and worked as an Audit Supervisor for the Internal Revenue Service for 32 years. After retirement, he continued to work as a tax consultant for several large companies including Harvard University. While working for these companies he and Joan traveled to many countries including Africa, Puerto Rico, Egypt, and Romania.
Ben was a very active member of Monroe Free Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, music leader and choir director in addition to serving on a host of church committees. He was also a member of Green Meadows Golf Course. Ben enjoyed golfing, running, traveling, spending winters at his home in Brooksville, FL, and hunting. Most of all Ben enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
Ben is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Joan, four loving children; Steven A. (Diane) Foley of Lamar, CO, Diana Jo (Carl) Cramer of Ida, MI, Krista L. (Jeff) Castillo of Raleigh, NC, and Timothy E. (Jen) Foley of Bend, OR, 12 cherished grandchildren; Jaime, Stephanie, Jeni, Ben, Kyrie’, Cameron, Connor, Jacob, Jessica, Nathan, Logan, and Jack, and 12 treasured great grandchildren; Jacklynn, Isabell, Chloe, Calon, Aubreigh, Kayleigh, Harper, Knox, Pierce, Nora, Ross, and Camilla.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by two sisters; Joan Knotts and Beatrice Bowie.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161. On Friday, June 1, 2018 he will lie in state from 10:00 AM at Monroe Free Methodist Church, 3928 E. Dunbar Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, where funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
