Born in Norristown to the late Dr. William D. and Anna Taggart Ziegler, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betsy.
Bill was a graduate of Norristown High School and The Hill School in Pottstown. He was a 1955 graduate of Penn State University, where he served as captain of the tennis team, was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and was in the U.S. Army division of ROTC. While at Penn State he met the love of his life, Sue Abell. Upon graduation they were stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. and Fort Lewis, Wash. while serving as a first lieutenant.
After working with Sunoco and with Clare Hart Realtors, Bill opened Bill Ziegler Real Estate in Mountain Top.
Bill and Sue enjoyed Penn State football as season ticket holders for decades, enjoyed playing bridge, and Bill thoroughly loved the sport of tennis! Bill was a top-notch local tennis player and remembered every point he played. In 2015 Bill was inducted into the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his numerous tournaments won locally and countrywide.
Bill is survived by his wife, K. Sue (Abell); daughter, Dani (Ken) Durham, Alex, David and Jonathan, Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Shelly (Dan) Onorato, Kate, Emily and Danny, Pittsburgh; and son, Bill (Irene) Ziegler III, Will IV, Benjamin, Catherine and Hannah, Mountain Top. Bill is also survived by his brother, John T. "Jack" (Madge) Ziegler, Carlisle.
The funeral service will be held at noon Friday at McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top.
Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
