Mrs. Lowery passed away on Friday (May 18, 2018) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility after being there only a short time.

Surviving are her children, Vernon Lowery of Morristown, Phyllis Marshall & her fiancée Mark Blanchard of Morristown, and Suzanne Slate of Darby, MT; son-n-law Hilton Hotaling of Morristown; brother Philip Gibson of Ogdensburg; a sister, Betty Lowery of Brier Hill; and eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Barbara was born on June 5, 1934 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Henry & Ruth (Robinson) Gibson. At 16 Barb moved in with Don & Ruth Dunham of Hammond, and during that time became a sister to their son Dwayne. She graduated from Hammond High School and later married Vernon H. Lowery in 1952. After all the children were born in Hammond, she and her husband farmed for a period in North Carolina, and in 1972 relocated back to the North Country where the couple raised their family.

Barbara was a member of the Brier Hill Fire Department Auxiliary and the Orange County Square Dancing Club. She enjoyed going to the casino, trying her luck with scratch off tickets, playing bingo, shopping, traveling, gardening, canning, playing cards & scrabble, spending time at camp, annual luncheons with siblings on their birthdays and the many years of the Gibson family reunions.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Brier Hill Fire Department Auxiliary or the Office of the Aging “Meals on Wheels” program.
