Richard C. "Dick" Dickinson, 84, of Quincy, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Monday (May 21, 2018) in his home.
Born September 28, 1933 in Quincy, Dick was the son of Carl W. and Mildred M. Kerksieck Dickinson. He was married to Sandra "Sandy" Burgner Hoots. He shared his life with Alice Waelder for the past 12 years.
Mr. Dickinson served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Dick was a drummer with the Flying Dutchmen Drum and Bugle Corps for many years. An avid golfer who recorded 2 Hole in One's, Dick was a member of Cedar Crest Country Club where he was active with the Men's League and for a time ran the W.I.G.A. tournament at Cedar Crest. He was a member of the Quincy Elks Lodge No. 100 and called Bingo for many years at the Elks. Dick also enjoyed bowling, fishing and boating on the river. He will be remembered for his distinctive laugh and his saying; "Every day is a good day, some are just better than others".
Mr. Dickinson began his career with Ozark Airlines as a Customer Service Agent in Quincy. He was later promoted to Senior Customer Service Agent and transfered to Kansas City and returned to Quincy when he became Ozark Airline Station Manager at Baldwin Field in 1970. When the airline left Quincy, Dick remained with the company and moved to Wisconsin until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he moved to Ballwin, Missouri where he worked for a car dealership until moving back to Quincy to be closer to his family.
Survivors include his companion, Alice Waelder; two daughters, Kimberly Meyer (Billy) of Mendon, IL and Dawn Guthrie (Tony) of Tioga, IL; nine grandchildren, Michael Guthrie serving in the Air Force at Scott AFB, Mitchell Guthrie of Belleville, IL, Nicholas Guthrie serving in the Air Force at Scott AFB, Brandon Powers (Missy) serving in the Air Force at Ramstein AFB in Germany, Brice Powers of Mendon, Brittany Powers of Mendon, Amanda McNeff (Dan) of West Lafayette, IN, Greg Meyer (Irene) of Portland, OR and Brandon Meyer of Spokane, WA; seven great-grandchildren and one who is due in August; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dickinson was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew Ryan Guthrie; a brother, Donald Dickinson; and a sister, Joyce Dickinson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning (May 29, 2018) at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Walt Wilcoxson officiating. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 and the Air Force Funeral Honors Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday evening (May 28, 2018) from 4:00 to 6:00 and Tuesday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Center at Blessing Hospital.
