After her mother's death, she appears to have been raised by her aunt and uncle Margaret and Clark Besaucone. The 1870 Ouachita Parish census shows A.A. Lacy, 25, with wife Alline, 25 and a one year old daughter named Pauline. Lacy married Aline Wood August 26, 1868 in Ouachita parish. Online family trees state Alexander was born on the above date to William Sterling Lacy and Julia Ann Eldridge and his middle name was Archibald. They also state he was born at El Dorado, but consistently, on every census record, the state of birth is listed as Tennessee. The 1860 Union County, AR census shows a 17 year old "Archer" Lacy and the head of the household is Wm. S. Lacy. The 1850 Union County, AR census shows a six year old Archibald A. with the Head of the Household as William S. Lacy.

His service records show he enlisted May 2, 1861 at El Dorado and was seriously wounded in the thigh at the Battle of Murfreesboro, TN Dec. 31, 1862.
