In 1884 the family moved to Crawford County Arkansas where Sterling continued to teach school.
It was there that their first child Coffee Leonard died at the age of 21 months of Cholora.
Three months later, their second child Hattie Mae was born.
After 1886, Sterling moved his small family to a farm in Benton County Arkansas. It was here that seven more sons and a daughter were born.

Susan was a very small person that weighed less then 100 pounds. She died of a miscariage at the age of 40.
