Thomas A Niland 83, of Schenectady , passed away on Monday March 24, 2008 unexpectedly at his home. Born in Schenectady on March 6 1925, he was the son of the late Thomas and Carola Kaufelt Niland. He was raised and educated in Schenectady, graduating in 1943. He was first employed by Schenectady Post Office. He relocated to Syracuse where he lived for 15 years while working for Maqua Company, a division of General Electric Co. He retired from General Electric Co. in Schenectady in 1990. An accomplished bowler, Thomas also enjoyed baseball, travel and golf. Survivors include his wife, Betty Rath Niland , two sons Thomas Craig Niland of Schenectady, Michael(Sue) Niland of Seattle WA, his daughter Kathleen (David) of Syracuse. , his brother James((Antonia)Niland, and his sister Eileen(William) Zarzycki , nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11am at Lights Funeral Home 1428 State St. Schenectady, inurnment at Fishers Cemetery of Rotterdam.
