Born Ellie Lee Rye, she legally changed her name to Sally Rye as an adult. She was known as Sally from the time she was in her late teens. She told me personally that she had worked in a cafe on her first job where the owner asked her name. She replied "Ellie Lee" telling the woman she was not fond of her name. The woman replied, "Then I'll call you, Sally." Ellie Lee liked her new name so much, she was always known as Sally. In the mid 90's she told me that she ultimately changed her name legally to Sally in a court of law.
Sally had one son, Phil, who passed away in Los Angeles California.
