Jo Caston Mouhot passed away peacefully on May 20, 2018 at the age of 91, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Jo was born in Coushatta, Louisiana on December 5, 1926. She was the eldest child of James and Virgie Caston. Jo graduated as the Valedictorian of her class at Iowa High School in LA in 1942. She married Herbert Mouhot and together they lived in Lake Charles, Louisiana where they raised five children. They both earned their private pilots licenses and grew a thriving vegetable garden.
Jo was a faithful Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana for many years. Jo later moved to Granbury, Texas and was a member at First Baptist Church of Granbury.
Jo was gifted with a desire to create and cultivate beautiful things and she devoted herself to many hobbies including sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, painting, embroidery, ceramics and gardening. Jo could always be found with a freezer full of food and she took great pleasure in cooking for her family. She was a quick-witted, capable, and creative woman who will be remembered for her many talents and playful smile.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, James and Virgie Caston, husband Herbert Mouhot and daughter Lita Knotts, as well as her brothers Terry Caston and Charlie Caston, and sister Greta Lyon.
Jo is survived by her children: Edward Mouhot of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Sherilyn Byers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ray Mouhot of Granbury, Texas and Lon Mouhot of Prairieville, Louisiana, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, sisters: Callie Smith of Port Allen, Louisiana, Virgie Sinyard of Hope, Arkansas, Barbara Vick of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Mary Cash of Warren, Arkansas and brother James Caston of Cleburne Texas.
Burial will be at Prien Memorial Park in Lake Charles, Louisiana on May 26, 2018. Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 26, 2018, Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until service time, Johnson Funeral Home, Lake Charles, LA.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Waterview Senior Living Memory Care Unit and Interim Hospice of Granbury, Texas for their dedication and care for their mother in her final days.
