Robert Ray Van Waardhuizen was born October 2, 1947, to Harry and Cleora (Carpenter) Van Waardhuizen, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away at Comfort House in Pella, on May 22, 2018.

Bob grew up on the family farm near Reasnor. He attended Pella schools, graduating from Pella Community High School in 1965, and from AIB (American Institute of Business) in 1967. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was united in marriage to Susan Hale on November 18, 1972, in Des Moines. To this union three children were born: Leigh, Lauren and Michael.

Bob worked for Van Gorp Corporation for 30 years. He was later an over-the-road truck driver until his retirement in 2009.

Over the years, Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing with his friends. Bob was always happiest behind the wheel – whether driving around town or across the country to visit the National Parks. Later, he also enjoyed cruising around the world with his wife, Sue, and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue, and their children and families:

Leigh and Dak Rasmussen, Pella, Iowa

Will, Nora and Maggie

Lauren Van Waardhuizen, West Des Moines, Iowa

Michael and Samantha Van Waardhuizen, Woodinville, Washington

Athena and Luna

Bob is also survived by his sister Phyllis and John Thomas of Natchitoches, Louisiana, and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Cleora Van Waardhuizen, and his parents-in-law, Ed and Marge Hale.
