Dennis Day Ray was born August 26, 1941, just two miles East of Wright City, Oklahoma. His parents were Bennie and Hazel Ray. He attended 1st and 2nd Grades in Wright City. In 1948, the Ray Family moved to Valliant, OK, and Dennis attended Valliant Public Schools 3rd through 12th Grades. Dennis graduated from Valliant High School in 1959.

He then attended Eastern State University in Wilburton, OK for one semester and Southeastern State University in Durant, OK for 3 1/2 years, receiving his B. S. in Education in 1963. Later, in 1978, Dennis received a Masters' Degree in Educational Administration from UCO in Edmond, Oklahoma. He also worked toward a Doctorate in Education at UCO and then OSU, attaining 34 of the 62 ½ hours required. Dennis' health problems ended his formal education in 1988.

After receiving his Bachelors' Degree, Dennis moved to Midwest City, OK and became a teacher at Mid-Del Schools where he was a teacher and coach for 30 years. He taught 5th through 9th Grades and also coached Football, Basketball, Wrestling and Track. He attained an 86.4% winning percentage in 6A Junior High Football for 25 years, playing all the largest schools in Oklahoma City. His winning percentage in Basketball and Wrestling was even much higher.

Dennis has lived in the Midwest City/Del City, OK Area for 46 years and has two daughters.

His first daughter is Kim Franks who is a Nurse Practitioner, with a BS and MS from OU and a Practitioner Degree from the University of Texas in Wichita Falls. Kim has two children who are Decker Franks, age 20 and Ben Franks, age 17. Decker is a student at Rose State College in Midwest City, OK, and Ben is a student at Durant High School, in Durant, OK.

His second daughter is Traci Joiner who attended East Central University in Ada, OK for Deaf Education and attended Veterans Hospital Vo-Tech for one year, attaining EEG Tech Certification. Traci worked in that field for some time. She then attended Barber College and has worked as a barber. Traci has a daughter who is Kylie Quinn, age 16, who is a student at Christian Heritage Academy in Del City, OK. In Cheerleading, Kylie is a High School All-American, State Champion and two-time Texas All-Star. Traci's son is Josh Joiner, age 4 who attends Pre K at Townsend Elementary School in Del City, OK. Dennis thinks that little Josh is a future President of the United States!!!

Some of Dennis' former students and players are the DC Mayor, State Senators, State Representatives, Director of the State of OK- ATF, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Policemen, Judges, Firemen, State Troopers, School Superintendants & Principals and all walks of life. Several students who played sports for Dennis played on State Championship and National Championship Teams and made All-Americans. Many of his students played at OU, OSU, Notre Dame, NM State, Arkansas, Kansas State and almost all the universities in OK and nearby states.

The Midwest City/Del City, Oklahoma School Administrators always gave Dennis the highest marks for his coaching. At every occasion, the Del City Mayor introduces Dennis as one of the most prominent men in Del City, Oklahoma.

Dennis always remembers his hometown of Valliant, OK and tries to get back home to visit every chance he gets. He truly appreciates all the wonderful people in Valliant, especially the Valliant Schools, Churches and Teachers who molded his life and inspired everyone to be "all that they could be!"

Dennis is very proud of from where he came…yes, VALLIANT, OK!
