Joy Elaine Hall, age 91, formerly of Eau Claire, WI, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Woodland Hill Presbyterian Home in Hudson, WI.

Joy was born August 25, 1926 to Anton and Minnie (Franklin) Ellingson. She grew up on the farm where she was born in Lone Rock Township, rural Flandreau, SD and graduated from Egan High School class of 1944. Joy received her BA teaching degree in Business and Physical Education from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. She taught school in Sacred Heart, MN and Madelia, MN.

She was married to Marshall E. Hall on June 20, 1953 at Lone Rock Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children, Miriam, Mark and Marius. Joy became a homemaker and supported Marshall in his ministry as a pastor. She took an active role in each congregation, participating in numerous groups and activities in the churches they served in Independence, Sand Creek, and Stanley, WI. They retired in 1993 to Eau Claire where they served an interim ministry at First Lutheran.

Joy enjoyed keeping a clean, neat home and she was an excellent seamstress, making many of her own clothes. She was a person of deep faith who loved her family and exhibited a quiet strength.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Minnie Ellingson; husband of 62 years, The Reverend Marshall E. Hall; grandson, Evan Hall; brother, James (Jean) Ellingson; infant sister, Vivian Ellingson; sister, Phyllis (Joseph) Swenson; and brother-in-law, Arlen Benson.

Joy is survived by her children, Miriam Soppeland of Zimmerman, MN, Pastor Mark (Naomi) Hall of River Falls, WI and Marius Hall; grandchildren, Erik (Laura) Hall, Julie (Randy) Coffman, Peter Hall, Amy Soppeland; great-granddaughter, Beda Hall; sister, Marilyn Benson; and many other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, 202 S 2nd Street River Falls, WI. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire, WI.
