We lost one of our City of Irving family members while serving in the line of duty. Irving Police Officer Andrew Esparza died Friday from injuries he received from an automobile accident while responding to an emergency call. The 26-year-old officer served the citizens of Irving proudly and professionally for the past two years.

According to the news release from the Police Department, Officer Esparza was traveling eastbound on State Highway 183, responding to an accident at State Highway 114 and Loop 12, when he apparently lost control of his police vehicle in the rain and slid off the right shoulder striking a light pole.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Esparza's family and friends, and to the entire Irving Police Department.
