Janet Young Hammond died May 19, 2018 in Salt Lake City at age eighty-six.

She was born February 11, 1932 to Dow Harold Young and Effay VanCott Young.

Janet married her eternal companion, Harlan Young Hammond, on December 22, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death.

She grew up in a musical family, played the piano and organ, and nurtured others in music throughout her life. Janet was a gracious host and loved gathering extended family and friends in her home.

She was proud of her pioneer heritage and served as president of the Brigham Young Granddaughters Association and was involved with Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Fine Arts, Classics Club, and her Great Books Group.

She was a schoolteacher and music specialist in the Granite School District for many years. Janet received her education degree from the University of Utah while her husband was serving in the Korean War.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as an organist in several wards and the Jordan River Temple.

She is survived by her children, Karen H. Nelson (Richard), Harlan Y. Hammond, Jr. (Julia), Peter Y. Hammond (Jennylyn), and Lark H. Morton (Michael); thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

We express our profound thanks to the many loving caregivers Janet has had the last few years.
