George Robert Swanter Jr., "Bob" to his family, extended family and friends, was born in Daytona Beach Florida on January 11, 1927 to George Robert Swantner and his wife Emma Louise Gansle. Bob attended Incarnate Word Academy and The Corpus Christi College Academy until he entered high school. Bob graduated from Corpus Christi High School; now Miller High School; in 1944. He joined the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot trainee and served in a B-29 Bomber Group at Clark Field, the Philippines. In Later years he used his training to obtain a private pilots license and flew his own plane to and from many destinations. Bob served as president of the Swantner Investment Corporation, A Mortgage Bank, and was very active in the Texas and National Mortgage Bankers Association. He also served as vice-president of Six Points Investment Corporation, a developer of subdivisions, and was a partner in the family partnership of Swantner and Gordon Insurance Agency. On retirement from the family business, Bob moved to his beloved hill country of Texas and settled in Kerrville, Texas where he was active in the Real Estate Brokerage Business. Bob was also the volunteer director of the famous Cowboy Artist's Association of America, headquarters in Kerrville, which house many of the outstanding works of America's Cowboy Artists. Bob decided Kerrville was getting too big for a country boy and he and his wife Kathy moved to Stonewall, Texas, where they renovated one of the old German Homesteads as their new home. While in Corpus Christi Bob was one of the very few "out of the closet" Republican Party Members and also participated regularly and strongly in local politics. He was insistent and vocal "stirrer up" of local issues that were being hotly debated in his community. Bob was a charter member of the Revitalized Corpus Christi yacht Club and was an active participant in the sailing and racing community. Bobs left this earth and went to be with Jesus; whom he confessed to know & believe in; on January 13, 2004, two days after his 77th birthday.
Predeceasing him were his parents, his younger brother Tom Swantner, and his wife Kathy, who died on February 6, 2003. Bob's survivors include four sons George Robert Swantner III (Betty Sue) of Brownsville, Texas, William Patterson Swantner of Brownsville, Texas, James Berry Swantner (Tina Mariene) of Austin, Texas, Fredrick Justice Swantner (Jennifer) of Beaumont, Texas; his daughter, Elizabeth Cathrine Swantner (Roy Anthony Loicoma) of Brownsville, Texas. Bobs sister, Mary Louise Carter (Steve) of Pickens, South Carolina and Bobs Brother, Dick Swantner (La Nell) of Corpus Christi. Memorial Service will be held at Seaside Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17, 2004. Memorial donations may be made to "Ring of Champions", a mentoring program for juveniles, housed at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.
