Funeral services for Irene Stewart, age 79, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lindy, Nebraska. Pastor Tom Jacobson will officiate, with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Irene died Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield.
Irene Magdaline (Nielsen) Stewart, was born April 27, 1939, to Karl and Luella (Bourn) Nielsen, at Lindy, Nebraska. She grew up on the family farm in the Lindy area. Irene attended Lindy District 129 rural school through the eighth grade, and one year of high school.
On March 21, 1958, Irene was united in marriage to Galen R. Stewart at Niobrara Lutheran Church parsonage in Niobrara, Nebraska. After they were married, Irene helped her husband with farming near Lindy most of their lives. To their union four children were born: Marie, Karen, Lynn, and Jeff.
Irene kept busy cooking, gardening, helping with the chores, and farming. She was an excellent cook and her food was enjoyed by all. Irene worked as a nurses aide at Bloomfield Good Samaritan Center for about 10 years.
Irene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Galen R. Stewart of Bloomfield, Nebraska; daughters, Marie Stewart of Rapid City, South Dakota, Karen Stewart of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Lynn Stewart of Yankton, South Dakota; son, Jeffrey (Mayra) Stewart of Sioux City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Lucas and Kent Michael and Anthony, Evan, and Matthew Stewart; four great-grandchildren, Jaya, Zephaniah, Zoie, and Rhylie; brother, John Nielsen of Bloomfield; sister-in-law, Kathy Nielsen of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four infant sisters, Mary, June, Diane, and Judy; sister, Anna Broders; brother, Daniel Nielsen; and brother-in-law, Larry Broders.
Irenes wishes were to thank her caregiver family, Bloomfield Good Samaritan staff, and her doctors and nurses.
