Christine Caplinger (nee Adams) a long time Portage resident, passed from her life on earth to her everlasting life with God on May 20, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Victor Caplinger, father, Michael Adams, birth mother, Mary Rose Adams, life mother, Mary Francis Adams. Christine also leaves behind her brothers, James (Marge) Adams and Michael (Jan) Adams, niece, Marie (Tim) Adams-Feltenberger, nephews, David (Melissa) Adams, Raymond (Nicole) Adams and Keith (Pamela) Adams and her great many great nieces, nephews and puppy, Pumpkin.
Born in 1937 in Gary, Indiana, Christine enjoyed growing up in the Glen Park neighborhood. She attended St. Mark’s Catholic grade school and graduated from Lew Wallace in 1955. Following graduation, Christine found her professional life at the St Mary Mercy School of Nursing in Gary, Indiana graduating in 1958. After graduation, she first nursed at St. Mary Mercy Hospital. She then transitioned to industrial nursing at US Steel Corporation for over 30 years.
Christine and her husband Victor were a team. They worked around the house together, played with their myriad of puppies together and yes, worshiped God together. Christine enjoyed her Christian faith and found comfort in both Byzantine and Catholic houses of worship.
Christine loved her family with all her heart. At family gatherings she took great pleasure in telling the “Adams Family” stories. To Christine, her niece and nephews were like her own children. She reveled in leaving homemade cookies and multiple vitamins in her mailbox for them to enjoy at school.
Viewing for family and friends will be from 4:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, IN and Thursday from 9:00-10:00am at Nativity of Our Savior Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Nativity of Our Savior Church at 10:00am on Thursday, May 24, 2018 followed by a Christian Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
