Frances grew up farming in Barbour County, Alabama, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Felix Barnes. Frances married Felix in December 1945 in Desoto County, Mississippi. They were happily married for almost 49 years before Felix's death in September 1994.
Frances was a homemaker and after several moves in their early years, she and Felix eventually settled in Titusville, FL where she raised her six children. Frances loved to cook and especially loved to host family gatherings at the holidays.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Felix, as well as her oldest daughter, Barbara Frances in December 1987, by her parents, and sister, Thelma Varnum, and brothers, J.W., Corbitt, Arbie, Curtis, and Virgil.
Frances is survived by her brother, Colon Benton, Orlando, FL; niece/sister Shelby Jean Boyd, Dothan, AL, five children, Glenda Thompson (Darrell) of Tallahassee, FL, Steve Barnes (Brenda), Mims, FL, Mike Barnes (Teri) of Titusville, FL, Robert Barnes (Debbie) of Oviedo, FL, and Kathy Zubowicz (Lou) of Leesburg, FL); nine grandchildren, Becky Boyer, Darrell Thompson, Jr., Brian Thompson, Brenda Munro, Jonathan Barnes, Ryan Oliver, Mike Barnes, Jr., Jason Zubowicz, and Canda Roop and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, FL at 5:00 PM, Sunday, May 20, 2018. Frances will be buried in a private service beside Felix in Titusville, Fl. at Oaklawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
